Upgrade decision guide
UpToDate Pro Plus and UpToDate Expert AI with MobileComplete against the standard plan
Pro Plus is standard UpToDate plus five things: Expert AI, a Kidney Dosing tool, Rx Transitions, MobileComplete offline access and state tagged CME. Two of those you could already buy as add-ons.
Here is exactly what changes, which society discount cuts the price, and who should not upgrade.
Press Run check for the interaction, contraindication, dosing and alternatives on this pair.
Not matched, so not checked: .
Nothing on this pair matched a row in the reference tables behind this check. That is not a clearance: it means these references do not name this combination.
Guideline-based alternatives
That was your demo check, run on the same references the desk uses. The desk adds renal dosing against an estimated clearance, hepatic review, unlimited checks, saved history and your sign-off on every card.
The on-page check covers five prescribing scenarios and never invents clinical output, so it will not produce a card for this pair.
The full Prescriber.io desk checks any regimen against interactions, contraindications, and renal or hepatic dosing, with cited sources for you to verify.

The short answer
What is UpToDate Pro Plus?
UpToDate Pro Plus is the upper personal UpToDate subscription, on sale since October 2025. It keeps the same 13,000+ topics as standard UpToDate and adds UpToDate Expert AI, a Kidney Dosing tool, Rx Transitions for Mental Health, MobileComplete offline access and CME state tagging. Wolters Kluwer publishes no price for either plan on a public page; society members get 15% to 50% off.
Feature list read from the UpToDate store comparison table and the member pages of AAPA, AAFP, ASCO, ACAAI and AANP. No reseller estimates, no coupon sites.

What the upgrade buys
What UpToDate Pro Plus adds over standard UpToDate
Six items on the vendor's list. Five are live, one is not yet released.
UpToDate Expert AI
A chat interface that answers from UpToDate topics only and shows which topic each statement came from. It needs a connection; it does not run offline, even with MobileComplete.
Kidney Dosing tool
Renal dose recommendations across multiple drugs and dialysis modalities in one place, instead of opening each Lexidrug monograph and scrolling to the renal section.
Rx Transitions for Mental Health
Step-by-step antidepressant switching with dose and side effect detail. Sold as an add-on to the standard plan and included in Pro Plus.
MobileComplete
Downloads the whole UpToDate library to your phone so it works with no signal. An add-on on standard UpToDate, included in Pro Plus.
State tagged CME
Marks the topics that count toward your state board requirements, such as opioid prescribing hours. For US physicians; you may still self-report to your board.
Deep Research AI
Listed on Pro Plus by the vendor but not yet released as of October 2026. Do not pay for the upgrade on the strength of it.
What is UpToDate Expert AI and who gets it?
UpToDate Expert AI is a conversational assistant that answers a clinical question using UpToDate topics only and links every answer back to the topics it drew on. Wolters Kluwer announced it on September 24, 2025 and opened it to select Enterprise Edition hospitals from the fourth quarter of 2025, with Pro Plus following for individuals.
The part most buyers miss is who already has it. The UpToDate app listing says Expert AI is available in personal trainee subscriptions in the US, in Pro Plus, and through select hospital accounts. A resident on a trainee rate does not need Pro Plus for the AI. A practicing physician, NP or PA paying personally does.
Expert AI needs a connection. Even with MobileComplete downloaded, the AI does not answer offline; only the topic library does.

AANP shows the rate only after login. UpToDate use earns AANP-accredited CE at 1.0 contact hour per hour, on professional subscriptions only.
Wolters Kluwer shows the Pro Plus price only inside the store, after you choose a country and a role, and the comparison table on its store page fills the number in by script. That is why no independent page can quote it with confidence and why coupon sites guess. We cover the standard plan and the store flow on UpToDate subscription cost.
Two store rules matter when you use a society rate. The member price disappears 30 minutes after you click through from the society site, so start the order when you can finish it. And trainee rates, including student and resident member pricing, earn no CME. If the CME is part of why you are paying, our UpToDate CME credits guide explains how the credit works on each plan.
Upgrade or stay
Is UpToDate Pro Plus worth it for you?
Six buyers, six answers. Most clinicians land in one of the first three or the last three.
Upgrade if you work without signal
Rural clinics, transport, travel, basement wards. You would buy MobileComplete as an add-on anyway, and Pro Plus bundles it with the rest. Expert AI still needs a connection.
Upgrade if renal dosing is daily work
Nephrology, dialysis units, hospitalists and long-term care. The Kidney Dosing tool puts dialysis modality and dose in one view, which saves real time across a full list.
Upgrade if your state board audits CME
Physicians in states with mandatory topics get the content tagged, which makes an audit trail easier. NPs and PAs get CE on the standard plan too, without state tags.
Stay on standard if you want AI only
Free cited AI exists for verified US clinicians: OpenEvidence and ChatGPT for Clinicians. Expert AI answers only from UpToDate, which is the point, but it is not the only option.
Stay if you are on a trainee rate
The UpToDate app listing says Expert AI is already in personal trainee subscriptions in the US. Trainee rates earn no CME, so the state tagging adds nothing either.
Ask first if your hospital has UpToDate
Expert AI also comes through select Enterprise Edition accounts. Check with your medical library before paying personally for the upgrade.
If renal dosing is the reason
The Kidney Dosing tool against a full prescription check
The Kidney Dosing tool is the most practical thing in Pro Plus for prescribers. It gathers renal dose recommendations across many drugs and dialysis modalities, which beats opening one monograph at a time. It is still a lookup: you bring the drug and the renal function, it returns the dose.
Prescriber.io works the other way round. You enter the patient once, with the full medication list, creatinine clearance and liver function, and add the drug you plan to prescribe. It checks interactions across every medication, flags contraindications and allergy blockers, and returns renal and hepatic dose adjustments (including Child-Pugh) on one card with cited sources. You review every flag and sign. Plans run $24 to $37 per clinician a month billed annually, published on our pricing page.
Plenty of clinicians keep both: UpToDate for the clinical question, a prescription check for the order. If you only wanted Pro Plus for dosing, try the check first. Our renal dosing calculator page shows how it handles a dialysis patient.
One drug, or the whole list
Kidney Dosing tool
- Input: one drug, renal function, dialysis type
- Output: renal dose
- Interactions: open each monograph
Prescriber.io check
- Input: full list, CrCl, liver function, allergies
- Output: renal and hepatic dose, interactions, contraindications
- Every flag cited, you sign

What each product's AI answers from, and the price each vendor publishes.
| Product | AI and what it covers | Published US price |
|---|---|---|
| UpToDate Pro Plus | Expert AI, answers from UpToDate topics only | Not published, shown in the store after country and role |
| Standard UpToDate | None on a professional plan; Expert AI on trainee plans | Not published, shown in the store after country and role |
| DynaMedex with Dyna AI | Dyna AI assistant on top of DynaMed and Micromedex | $675 a year ($599 without AI) |
| ClinicalKey AI | Cited answers over Elsevier books and journals | $349 a year or $39 a month |
| OpenEvidence | Cited answers from NEJM, JAMA and others | Free for verified US clinicians |
| ChatGPT for Clinicians | Cited clinical search with an individual BAA | Free at launch for verified US clinicians |
| Prescriber.io | Checks one prescription against the full list: interactions, contraindications, renal and hepatic dosing | $24 to $37 per clinician a month billed annually |
Expert AI's strength is its boundary: it answers only from UpToDate, so you get UpToDate's graded recommendations in conversational form. The free tools cast a wider net across journals. We compare the two free options in OpenEvidence vs ChatGPT for Clinicians, and UpToDate against the free one in OpenEvidence vs UpToDate. If DynaMedex is on your shortlist, see UpToDate vs DynaMed.

Questions people ask before buying UpToDate Pro Plus
What is UpToDate Pro Plus?
UpToDate Pro Plus is the upper personal subscription to UpToDate, sold in the US and Canada since October 2025. It includes everything in standard UpToDate plus Expert AI, the Kidney Dosing tool, Rx Transitions for Mental Health, MobileComplete offline access and CME state tagging for US physicians.
How much does UpToDate Pro Plus cost?
Wolters Kluwer does not publish the Pro Plus price on a public page. The store shows it only after you pick a country and role, and its own comparison table renders the price by script. Society members pay 15% to 20% less as professionals and 50% less as students on annual or longer terms.
What is UpToDate Expert AI?
UpToDate Expert AI is a conversational assistant that answers clinical questions using only UpToDate content and links each answer back to the source topics. Wolters Kluwer announced it on September 24, 2025. Individuals get it with Pro Plus or a trainee subscription; hospitals get it through select Enterprise Edition accounts.
Is UpToDate Expert AI included in a standard subscription?
Not on a standard professional subscription. Expert AI is included in Pro Plus, in personal trainee subscriptions in the US and in select Enterprise Edition accounts. A practicing clinician paying personally needs Pro Plus to get it, unless their hospital account already includes it.
Does UpToDate Pro Plus include MobileComplete?
Yes. MobileComplete, which downloads all UpToDate content to a phone for offline use, is an add-on on the standard plan and included in Pro Plus. Downloadable Desktop, offline access on up to two computers, remains an add-on on both plans. Expert AI itself does not work offline.
Can I get a discount on UpToDate Pro Plus?
Yes, through a medical society. AAPA members save 20%, plus an extra 5% through October 31, 2026. AAFP, ASCO and ACAAI members save 15% as professionals and 20% as residents. Student members of these societies save 50%. The member price expires 30 minutes after you enter the store.
Do you get CME with UpToDate Pro Plus?
Yes, the same CME, CE and CPD credit as standard UpToDate, earned while you search. Pro Plus adds state tagged topics so US physicians can see which content counts toward state requirements. Trainee-rate subscriptions earn no credit, and AANP CE applies to professional subscriptions only.
Is UpToDate Pro Plus worth it?
It is worth it if you would otherwise buy MobileComplete, dose drugs in kidney disease daily or need state tagged CME. If you mainly want AI answers, free cited tools such as OpenEvidence and ChatGPT for Clinicians cover much of that, and standard UpToDate keeps the same topic library.
